Opera Tours

Opera Tour Travel

Home is where the opera heart is! The Guild promotes the Front Range music scene with trips to Central City Opera, and to the opera productions by the music departments of the University of Colorado-Boulder, Colorado State University-Fort Collins, the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley, and other regional venues.

Each year the Opera Plane Tour members travel to major opera houses in the United States and Canada to hear old favorites or to be introduced to new operas. Cultural outings to museums, memorials, or whatever is "hot and happening" are always included. From New York to Natchez, San Francisco to Santa Fe, this excursion provides both culture and charisma.

The Denver Lyric Opera Guild has provided amazing Opera Tours each Spring. In May, 2009, a fortunate group flew to Ft. Worthdlog-operatour-dc-052011-crowds2, Texas where they experienced La Cenerentola, Dead Man Walking and Carmen.  To further flavor the weekend, new museums and local restaurants were sampled.

In June, 2010, the lovers of opera flew to St.Louis, Missouri to enjoy Magic on the Mississippi with The Golden Ticket, Eugene Onegin, A Little Night Music and The Marriage of Figaro. A tour of the Gateway Arch and Old Town St. Louis were included to make the Journey complete.

In May 2011, the opera adventurers flew to Washington, DC for two operas and a Pops Symphony at the legendary Lincoln Center. On Friday, we saw a delightful production of Don Pasquale.  Sunday, the world renowned Placido Domingo and Patricia Racette performed Pphigenie en Tauride. This was a beautiful and dramatic production. The Pops Symphony Saturday Night featured Music with a Latin Beat. To provide us with a taste of Washington there was an informative Trolley Tour of the Mall area followed by some free time to explore the Smithsonian Museum, the Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery.  To complete a perfect weekend, we dined in Historic Georgetown.

In addition to the joy of travel, the trip also helps fund the Opera Plane Tour Award at the Annual Competition. Over the years, the Opera Plane Tours have been an important source of funding for the Competition. A small portion of the cost of each trip is a contribution to the Annual Competition.
